915 clutch
Hi,
Is it possible to replace the clutch on 915 transmission in 76 targa without removing the engine? I understand engine removal is considered a straightforward task and few things can be done while the engine is out but; I just need the clutch fixed and I have lift in my garage so access underneath is not an issue. Thank you

You can remove just the gearbox but it is harder to do to put it back. It is just much easier to remove the gearbox and engine as one unit.

I'll second that - In my opinion, it's much easier to remove the engine and transmission as one unit and separate them to replace the clutch.

No. The shift rod sticks into the tunnel, so you can't lower that end. Racers cut a notch in the floor pan, but not recommended.

After a few R&R's you can pull the motor and trans in about a hour. The biggest PITA are the axles especially on the older cars.

Just pull the engine and leave the trans in place. Disconnect the shift coupler. Use a protractor to match the angles of the engine and trans for easy mating. That would require an adjustable jack plate under the engine. I have a couple of truck transmission jacks that work well. Rent one.

I feel stupid adding a +1 to Mr Walker's post, but that's the answer. Look no further.
