Question Window Felt Installation?

Hello

What is the best way to install a window felt on a 1973 911?

Thank You for your help and responses.

Hi jtkkz.
I just did mine last week. I put dish washing soap on the rubber, and it worked fine. Just be patient and push the felt all the way down the window. Daniel

How do I actually get the old felt out?
Which bolts do I remove to get the window out?

I am not 100% sure where to start

if the felt is the type that is all rubber, then it just pulls out. early cars had metal backed felt that was solidly glued in which required frame removal. installation is as previously described, but i use silicone spray only on the section that goes into the door. push it down as far as possible, raise the glass 3", stick a screwdriver into the felt on a 45° angle with the shank resting on the edge of the glass, and lower the glass. the felt will follow. repeat until it's all the way down.

Yes mine is the metal backed / glued. Part of it is missing that is why I am replacing it.

Do I have to remove the whole window frame?

How Do I do that?

thank you

If you have to remove the frame:
Get an extra set of hands if possible.
Pry up the outer chrome strip on the outside carefully. Cover everything with masking tape to prevent scratches.
The window frame is held in by 2 allen-head bolts at the front, three at the back, and one holding the center inside the door which requires removal of the panel/latch/pocket.
Take a real good look at the alignment before taking it apart and if possible mark the position. The frame just pulls up and out , but remember the window/regulator is also being pulled up while your removing it.
The metal backed felt is a PITA. It took me over an hour with a screwdriver and needle-nose vise grips and I still scratched the frame.
I also soaked the felt with spray silicone which made the installation a little easier.
