Sunroof seal adhesive and weatherstrip adhesive
Got my SC back from paint. Have pretty much all new sunroof seals, as well as doors, hood seals etc. Never done anything like this.
Is there a recommended adhesive for installing these items? The sun roof has a velvet seal that goes on the body, one that goes on the sunroof panel, and a rubber seal that also goes on the sunroof panel. Do the velvet and rubber seals require/ recommend a different kind of seal? Thanks in advance! |

3M weather strip adhesive works fine. It’s available about everyplace. It comes in both yellow and black; I recommend the black since that matches the strips. Also get a can of 3M weatherstrip adhesive cleaner for removing excess - there will be that. It won’t damage your paint.

I second the use of 3M adhesives....clean surfaces and a "no-rush" approach will make the task less stressful.

Yes, I have tried all different types and the 3M weatherstrip adhesive works the best.
I didn't know that it came in black, I only have the yellow. But would agree that black is better than yellow, because the yellow ages to orange and looks like rust over time, plus that stuff makes a huge mess and ends up seeping out of your weather strip. The adhesive remover is also very good idea, as well as a box of rubber gloves so you can keep your hands clean.

Eagle... suggest speaking with someone who will explain how to stretch & cut the rubber inside the sunroof seals to make the tuck between the sun roof panel seal and roof seal tight and look right on both sides.
Another thought... clean out drains while dealing with sunroof. .

3M 1357 has been used on aircraft door seals. A friend in that business told me about it and I've used it on 911 door seals successfully. It is a brush on product that tacks fast. The trick is to do small sections at a time because it does tack/cure so quickly. It holds seals very well. No more waiting for the cure or watching a seal fall out of the channel during the cure. Once it sets, you're done.
A product I was recently shown by a restorer is Kent Automotive P10190 Ultra Stick. It allows more working time but still has a terrific hold once cured. Were I doing a sunroof seal I might consider this a better option because it is clear.
