Exhaust options with heat for performance 2.8
Hey there. Looking at options or opinions on exhaust with heat.
Building a hotter motor. 2.8 with a lot of goodies. Currently have ssi heat exchangers with sport 2:1 muffler. I believe these are 1 3/8 id and would like 1 1/2 design. Would love ssi if an option. Heat is needed. Defrost and for chilly mountain runs in SoCal!! Thoughts??? headers with heat
Right now Brian from M & K is making headers from a set of step headers I used to make.Adding heat he can do as well. These make very good power.Way more than SSI.1st set is utilizing a 997 gt-3 muffler with exhaust cut outs to have it be quiet or louder when the throttle is opened.I will keep you posted. No price yet. There will be a smaller & larger version for 3.4-4.0 Liters.Fred

I am seriously considering putting in an Eberspacher type heater in my RSR-ish build. But rather than have it draw gas from the tank, it will draw from a separate small diesel fuel tank mounted nearby in the trunk.

We are currently working on a 1.63"OD version of our tuned long tube headers plus a version to be used with late model GT3 mufflers. F1 style collector has a fully welded double slip joint under the heat exchanger. Hate to cover them up but these are block huggers and that design packages well. Here is a picture of the 1.5" version, the 1.63" version will be identical.
![]() ![]() The version for use with late model GT3 mufflers will have divided secondaries that feed upper and lower chambers of that muffler with an active exhaust valve to divert flow.

BBE also do a nice set in the size you want too. The heat exchanger works well.

There's also the Eisenmann heat exchangers that look like SSI's if you want a more original look. These have a 40mm ID if I'm not mistaken.
M&M exhaust also offers a complete system with heat. Turbo Thomas exhaust in the UK offers headers with heater boxers. |

There's a guy here on the boards who posted a terrible experience with the Eisenmann heat exchangers.
