TWO voltage regulators?
Well I installed the new Motorola/Marshall regulator and still got 18 volts out of my system... So I took off the oalternator and lo and behold it's a Paris Rhone with an INTERNAL regulator...
So are their TWO VR's on an early car? Or is the external one redundant (mind you I have an 83 motor in a 70 car) with the INTERNAL one failed? Wish I had looked at the alternator before I ordered the new external regulator

Isn't 18V too high?

Somebody neglected to finish the job when the new engine was transplanted in. One of the 2 v/r was left but not not hooked up. Sounds like the internal one is defective and the other is just taking up space.

external regs should be removed, not just disconnected, when an internally regulated alternator is installed, to keep someone from saying, "hey, this plug isn't connected", and plugging it back in.

Well the second external one WAS "vestigial" as one of the two wires coming off of it was clipped (per a factory recommended upgrade some time ago).
Bill was dead on. All they had to do was remove the damn thing and it would have saved me a LOT of hassles... Anyway, new alternator installed and the system runs at a steady 14.1 volts at all RPM's! This same issue probably was the cause of my electromotive failures as well, so a ampmeter and voltmeter are going in tomorrow.

I use Aircraft Spruce "I posted a thread earlier about this, but no one every replied as to seeing one." --- you can get any gauge size/combo that you want .................Ron

Ahem...Raising Hand
Excuse me, if any of those regulators you don't need are the
external type that will fit my '74 with the Marchal alternator... I'd like to buy... This is not the plug in type that was standard on the '75+
