1984 Carrera 3.2 Speedometer wires

Hello All,

I just had my odometer fixed in my 1984 Porsche CArrera 3.2. (maybe)
I have the Benton manual for the car, it seems to show wiring for the speedo.

It appears that my wiring is different - and the speedo may not be fixed.
I plan to send the speedo out to be rechecked, etc.

The Benton manual shows a brown/red wire going to ground (from the sending unit).
and two brown red wires on a connector on the speedo - one goes to the sending unit and the other goes to the Tach (perhaps the shift light).

There is no mistaking the wires white/red and red/black.

There is another wire - which comes out of the harness, it is black/blue stripe - it appears to have been connected to the two brn/red wires.

In any case I have tried all combinations - and the speedo and odo appear not to work. The speedo was working BEFORE I sent it in - it was the odometer that quit working.

Any suggestions on how to get things working? Is it possible driving the car with out the speedo damaged the sending unit?

Thanks,
eholz1

No. The sending unit is a reed switch, agitated by a disk with magnets in the transmission.

Black and blue stripe are for the lights in it. Brown should be ground and tie into clock ground.

Gear might be cracked. You can buy one from our host. Lots of threads on this. It’s mechanical not electric.
