Anyone replace their targa roof to bar seal lately? Where did you source it?

OEM my best choice here at $500? Seems ridiculous for a seal but I don't want to chance it with some low quality knock-off. Any others recently complete this project? Thanks

I used the "OEM" in 2018. It was much better than the URO one, but I still don't think it's quite up to Porsche quality (though I was looking at a 35 year old seal and have no idea what the current Porsche seal looks like).

It's a pretty important piece of weatherstrip if you want a quiet/watertight car. If I was able to do it over again, I'd definitely spend the extra $100 and get the Porsche piece (even though "OEM" is supposedly identical).

I have also read that URO is improving their designs, so no idea what their current offering looks like.

We're making the vertical side sections about 14mm longer on our next production run of Targa Seal 911 565 091 45, but unfortunately it'll be about twelve months before the new version is available for sale.

(7/13/20 Edit: Initially posted part number 901 565 091 44 (for 1969-73) by mistake, now corrected to 1974-85 part number and link. Thanks Pampadori.)

so i have purchase the URO but if a new model is coming out, i would prefer to wait and return it in exchange for the better fitting version in a year. Can UROparts (sorry dont know your name) comments please. I can return the old seal in the coming week if you agree

7783911, URO's message above indicates to me that they won't be releasing an updated seal until 2021 ("unfortunately it'll be about twelve months before the new version is available for sale.")

I used the OEM seal between the top and rear bar. It is fiddly to install. This thread and the video within may be helpful:

pampadori--have you used that OEM seal? is it the same as the seal that is $544 here:

https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/0802/POR_0802_BDYCON_pg1.htm#item1

I'm trying to confirm with somebody with first-hand experience. It seems like even the OEM label does not always mean its and exact Porsche factory duplicate.

I think the Porsche part number is 91156509145 for a 1980 targa. Genuine Porsche was less than the product you referenced, at least a couple years ago when I did mine.

uro seal

I realize the new seal is 10-12 months away, however I d rather wait for the improved seal and return the old design. Thats why I am asking URO to respond relative to customer satisfaction,,,my reading of other posts have shown URO to be very customer orientated so i anticipate a positive response

The issue with the side sections of the current seal is that the length varies a bit from seal to seal. Some seals are fine, and some have side sections that are a bit too short, which is why some guys say the seal fits great while other guys have a gap.

If the seal you bought is one of the shorter ones and you have a gap at the door shell, we'd be happy to exchange it for the new version as soon as available (in about twelve months). Just send us a PM or email with your purchase details when we announce the new seal, and we'll get you taken care of.
