How does the trans linkage boot work ?

The inspection plate for the trans linkage on my car was removed during the re-carpet process. I noticed that the boot is not properly in place. It doesn’t seem to fit inside or outside the bushing where it passes through.

How is this supposed to work?

It fits on the outside of that flange at the rear of the tunnel. It is a beeach to get on.

Roll the outer edge about 1/2 an inch inside out. Start from the bottom and roll it onto the lip working your way up.

Does the accordion boot fit over the outer boot that also fits on that tunnel flange and sticks out the back of the tunnel over the shift rod?

What many do (including me) is after you get the back section in place...wrap a cable tie around it. Once that’s nice and tight... if will not pull off again.

Regards,
JT
