Pelican Parts Help me test new Pelican Feature Please?

Hey guys, I just added the ability for people to print out a paper copy of their invoice, on-line through a Crystal Reports Plug-In viewer.

Can you please help me test this to see if it works on most people's platforms?

Here is the link:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/track_enter.htm

You can use one of your old orders, or use this Order Id for a test print: 1041553240-736 .

Please let me know here if it works okay...

-Wayne

Works fine.
It's a good feature as I like to keep good records and often lose my paperwork. How far back can you go?

Printing now - it works.

Only takes about a minute to load the Crystal plugin on a broadband connection.

(was able to pull my order from 10/2/01)

Wayne,

I have placed 4 orders with Pelican Parts. I recently changed phone numbers and when I put my new phone number in the search box, 4 order lines come up, but they are for my last order. When I do a search using my previous phone number, 3 seperate orders come up, but they are old orders with my old phone number. Take a look at my account and try putting in my e-mail address with different phone numbers.

Otherwise, viewing the old orders works fine and an old Win2k machine.

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. This will help us (save some $$$) when we have parts drop-shipped and people want a copy of their invoice. I can just send them to the web for a printout versus printing one here, and mailing it in an envelope!

Wayne,

I ran a few tests against this on my home machine - WIndows XP/IE 6.0 sp1. Everything printed fine. I'll try it on some of my QA test mules when I get to work Monday (Mac/IE, Mac/NS, Win2k/IE5, etc).

It does fail the oldest QA test in the book, though, and thats the apostrophy in the input filed (email address, for example). This is a huge security hole (I could possibly delete your database with this) and should be plugged immediately. Not sure what you're writing this in, but you need to search/replace your ' with '' (thats 2 apostrophies, not a double quote). Nice work. One question - any reason you didn't use a version of Crystal that generates the reports in HTML? That way, no plug in is needed.

Smile Successful test

Wayne,

I tested the plugin and it worked fine. I used my most recent purchase invoice number and it printed out without any problems. I'm running XP Pro, IE 6, with all the patches, hotfixes and updates.

Thanks!

Thanks Dick. Building web applications is what pays for the p-car addiction.

I realized after I ran the first test that testing in Netscape (or Opera) is pointless (later confirmed) since Crystal Decisions is an ActiveX plug in, which means IE only. Be careful, this may anger all 6 people who still use Netscape .

On one of my last projects we logged browser types that hit the site; 95% were IE, 4% were NS, < 1% were other types (Lynx, Opera, Linux based browsers, etc). Not a lot of ROI in designing for Netscape anymore.

Wayne:

Works great, except one suggestion - Instead of the invoice coming up in the same window, why not do it in a pop-up? If I want to go back to where I was after viewing an invoice I have to refresh the site to get it to show results again.

Maybe a little cleaner.

Thanks though.. It's GRRRRRREAT!
:-)

I'm on a pitiful AOL dialup and I can't even figure out how to link a picture to a post... but it is going super slow, it may be 10 minutes I've been waiting since I grey crystal report viewer screen. I think I'd just as well wait for my invoice to come with the product.
Sorry to be the fly in the ointment but I guess my illiterate computer money is just as good as anyone's.
I'd say its been 15 minutes now and I still have a grey screen with an hour glass.
I'm running the infamous Millennium on a 1000mrz gateway if that means anything...
OK 20 minutes I give up... Thats my community service for the day! LOL
