I’ve rebuild my 3.2 engine

After 355.000 km the engine in my ‘87 targa leaked some oil and I wanted to upgrade it to ROW compression ratio.

On the 7th of December I took the engine out of the car. It went back in two weeks ago.

All fasteners, brackets, hoseclamps and even the new fuel lines were replated. Used ARP conrod bolts and head studs.

I found that the heads were rebuild before, the case was never split! All bearing were virtually new! Did replace everything though.

Thought you all would enjoy a few pictures

LOL, I misread it the same way. At first, I thought the rebuild took 2 weeks. The engine came out on Dec 7th and was reinstalled in late Feb. So, it was more like 3 months to get it done.

Looks great, but is that at a Porsche dealer?
Also, was the hardware replated, or new?

I am afraid to add up all the costs I've made, but my guess is around EUR 8500,00 and I did all the work myself.

After taking the engine out of the car disassembly is easy, cleaning everything is very time consuming though. After having cleaned most parts I have made an assessment of all the parts that needed to be replaced, replated, rebuild or sodium blasted.

Only the valve covers, chainhousings / covers and the fan and shroud were blasted. I did not want to blast anything with oil channels in them. I have painted the valve covers with VHT wrinkle paint and the fan and shroud with VHT ceramic coating.

I found a company that can replate all the fasteners and other parts even with rubber hoses attached to them! Even the most tired looking parts came back looking like new!!

The engine bay was cleaned, new sound isolation mat installed, new shocks, turbo tie-rods, some AC-hoses, AC-compressor etc all renewed.

The time frame could have been a lot shorter, during Christmas all shops were closed for two weeks. Also having the heads rebuild took quite some time.

Ohh and I had to wait for Amazon to send me over the ARP hardware. Ordered them the 30th of November and got them at the beginning of februari. Crazy!!!

If you want to see more pictures, let me know and I will post a few more.

Me too Jeff.....it's a pandemic. Happens all over Pelican. Not sure if it's laziness or a serious comprehension issue.....

This OP is obviously a professional. Well organized shop.....I don't think this is his first rodeo. Love the work. Whoever did the plating did a great job. I can't imagine how fast this might have gone back together if he wasn't held up by parts delivery.

I've helped to build up one 3.2 engine a few years ago. The shop is from a friend of mine and he let me use his facilities. My day job is to asses damages to houses for insurance company's. Working on cars is just a hobby :-) The shop is very well organized and a joy to work at. They exclusively work on Porsches.

If I could have just worked on it full time and all the supplying company's were lined up to deliver whenever I was ready to receive the parts I think I could have done it in 3 weeks.
