After a long hunt for a vintage 911 project I finally landed a ’74 in great shape without completely devastating the bank. My daughter quickly named it "Olly", seems like a good name so it stuck.

Now the fun starts, my overall vision pieces together a few styles but for the most part it will closely resemble an ST. I have no desire for this to be a "tribute" car but rather a project that incorporates my favorite vintage Porsche details. Here is the initial plan so far:

Major Metal Work (Done by Stratton Motorsports)
- Delete sunroof – full roof skin in lieu of patching sunroof hole
- Full backdate – existing steel turbo flares will remain
- Minor rust repair on passenger’s door

Exterior
- Paint: Irish Green (Done by Stratton Motorsports)
- Trim: Will polish up all of the existing aluminum trim and reuse.
- Standard metal decklid – no Porsche lettering.
- Wheels: On the fence, deciding between Minilites or Fuchs (Braid). Definitely going 9” front and 11” rear with TB15’s.

Interior
- Rear seat delete
- Carpet color is TBD for now
- Radio delete
- Heater delete – Because Florida
- HVAC to be added – Deciding between Griffiths or Classic Retrofit.
- RS door panels/pulls
- Wevo shifter and coupling
- No cage

Engine
- PO installed a 3.0 back in the early 90’s with only 25k sf miles, still have the receipt. To my amazement the car leaks zero oil….for now.
- Since it runs extremely well no major changes except fluids for the time being, I eventually will install PMO’s and gradually tune the motor.
- Delete stock heat exchangers, plan on installing SS headers
- M&K muffler

Suspension
- Elephant racing spring plate and new torsion bars
- Bilstein B6’s
- Bushings and misc. worn parts to be replaced as needed.
- Drop links already installed.
- Will slowly tune and balance of the car as needed.

I’m sure this list will grow/change as I get deep into the weeds on this project. But overall the car is solid, upon tear down I was extremely surprised to not find any major rust except for a quarter size spot on the lower passenger door.

The sunroof was definitely overflowing into the backseat so the decision to remove/delete the sunroof was a good move. I’m lucky enough to have Stratton Motorsports nearby so they will handle all of the metalwork/backdate plus bodywork and paint. They will likely POR 15 the interior as well.

Overall this should be a fun project and hopefully.....if all goes well it will look awesome. Here are a few before shots.

honestly, if I were you, I would backdate it to a 911R-kind of rod.
those steroid-ed flares don't fit with the potential of the engine.

I assume you ve done leak-down and compression tests already? A top end examination and refresh if the engine is out with things like refreshed seals, especially rocker arms etc can really tighten things up but you state you dont have leaks (miracle) . Otherwise she looks great and you should drive it like you stole it. If your going PMO's..great way to go but $ add up.

Yes, basic motor tests were done and checked out and I agree a top end would go a long way. Gas tank and lines definitely need to be flushed. But for the most part it's in great shape.

Gary's son Jason will be doing all of the metal/bodywork as well as paint. He is well known in the VW bus world and his quality is top of the line.

Yes, I know them from my own visit to their shop...some very nice VW buses just waiting for the market to swing up. will you ducktail while getting body work?

Tear down day, and for those in need of misc. ’74 parts I have a list of items below I’ll be putting up for sale in the parts section shortly.

- Whaletail (Made by AIR)
- IROC front and rear bumpers (Made by AIR)
- Steel hood (Rust free)
- Side skirts
- Rear taillight housings and lens
- Door mirrors
- Door panels, pull handle release latch and door pocket.
- Front and rear seats
- Spare tire (Good tread)
- Bilstein jack (Greet Dot)
- Original tire inflator
- Basket weave tool bag (I believe the lug wrench is original but that’s it)

Here it is, the bottom left wrench pocket seem and mid flap seem needs to be sewn back but its in decent shape. I'll keep the fan belt but everything else goes, wrenches are not original. Pricing from other posts in the for sale forum is all over the map so not really sure where to peg value. I'll say $350 plus shipping.

Mexico blue which is quite loud for my taste, I spent a few days contemplating keeping the original color, was a tough call to go with Irish green but I think it will look incredible with the style I'm going with. I'm less worried about value as my daughter will likely own it one day.

Irish green will look great. It's a classic color for sure. I do like the blues though.

Yea, I spent hours thinking about that route as I really like a narrow body. But the flares were done right and with metal, so I opted to keep it that way and go with a narrow body on the next project, got to get through this one first.

Roof cutout done. Just waiting on a new roof skin to show up. Backdate parts from Sierra Madre are ready but shipping is delayed as supply chains are jammed up right now.
