Base idle screw
Hello,
I’ve been having issues with intermittent hesitation and I’ve replaced many things and checked every hose and gasket for a vacuum leak but it’s still there. Now I went to adjust the base idle to raise it a little as it was sitting around 800rpm. When I turned in anti-clockwise with the engine running there was a distinct hissing sound which would go away if you continued to turn and then happen again and so on. Is this the normal function (sound?) of the screw? I did remove it completely with the engine off and the end was covered in oil and deposits of carbon. The seal was intact with no splits and didn’t seem hard. I replaced it and it still makes the hissing turn with every 270 degrees of revolution. Any thoughts? I think I’ll take the intake pipe off to take a look at the throttle butterfly and see if it’s clean via a camera. Don’t have the confidence to remove it just yet especially with disconnecting the throttle cable and then putting all back together correctly. Kempus |

More information needed........
Kempus,
Please be more specific what motor you are working. Hope you are not referring to your lawn mower (just kidding). Take a picture and you will get better responses. Right now, people will be just guessing when you get a reply. Keep us posted. Thanks. Tony |
