Power window help
On my 1983 911 SC, Both my driver and passenger side window do not work nor do any of the switches. I purchased 3 new switches since I heard that tends to be a weak point but still nothing. I checked the fuse in the front hood and also checked the relay. I found one behind the dash as well and I swapped it with one in the front to see if it helped but still nothing. Is it possible that both motors would be bad at the same time? Is there a way to jump the power window switch to see if the window goes down prior to pulling the door apart to get tot he motors?
Anywhere else that I should check? |

Pull the door panels and see if you have power at the motor. Simple volt meter will do this. I just went thru this. I doubt you have two bad motors.

Do you know how I check for power at the motors? If I pull the doors and I have my multimeter, I am sure I ground one side and then where do I put the red probe?

Two wires to the motor.... one is + and one is -.

seems first step would be to look for power at pin 5 on the driver's window switch (red probe from multimeter to pin 5 and black probe of multimeter to chassis (known ground)) -- if that shows power, switch black probe to pin 4 of the driver's window switch (to check for ground continuity on switch) -- if that too shows power, you've confirmed you're getting power to the switch (and should then check for power downstream at the motor -- note that the motor will/should only get power when the switch is activated up or down -- if no power at switch, keep going upstream on the circuit (relays>fuse) to see where the power stops.

So I got 12.5ish volts on pin 5 when using a chassis ground and the same when I moved the black lead to pin 4.

So if Im getting power at the switch then what is down stream from the switch to the motor? Is there a relay or fuse or is that all upstream from the switch?
