Do Wevo mounts use the supplied washer when fitted to the trans?

If you have fitted these you will know what I mean! Its hard to find clear instructions from Wevo or on a search. I bought the mounts used. I have a 79 Euro SC.

I have fitted one side, and it seems much happier with the rubber of the wevo mount directly against the trans support beam. The original mount had no washer, but the rubber in the original mount does have a central metal tube thru it.

I think I have got it right, but just in case I have messed up.. any help appreciated.

Mine are installed with Stainless wevo supplied washers.

Hi there, thanks that does help. I guess you have no issues?

I also found a previous post from here where the guy didn't use the stainless washers, the pic is his but mine look the same. Putting the washers on feels too 'metal to metal'.

Maybe it doesn't matter..

As you may know, the transmission mount bolts go into blind holes. This means that if you use a bolt that is too long, or a "stack" of parts that is too short, or some combination of the two, you can damage the threads when trying to tighten everything securely.

I have made that mistake on my '75-- it had custom fabbed solid mounts when I bought it and I was a bit careless at one point, omitting a washer and making my stack height too short. I damaged the threads one control arm and had to do a bunch of fab to recover.

There are likely still threads in these Forums on this... I may have contributed to one or two of them.

Wevo have a web site, and here is an excerpt from the page that describes one of the engine mount products:





My car is a race car and I have custom fabbed mounts-- I replaced the ones that were on the car when I bought it 20 or so years ago. I have experienced situations where the bolts backed off (even with lock washers) so I safety wire and paint dot my bolts after torquing them. I have friends that have had 'em back out a bit as well, but all situations have been with non-stock cars used at least part time for performance driving applications like AX and/or track driving/racing.

The Wevo folks are friends (I think 20+ years) and relatively local to me. They have a "contact us" page on their web site.

People installing these mounts should take note of what Mahler 9th said about the length of the bolt, and the use of a washer to insure it does not bottom. If a guy knows about this being a possible problem, it is easy enough to do some kind of dummy trial fitting and some measuring to see if you are going to bottom the bolt. You could also shorten the bolt, though it is nice to have the stock tapered end to help locate things.

You can easily enough imagine why I know that Helicoils work just fine in these blind threaded holes should the need arise.

And regular bolts of the right grade and pitch/diameter will do in this application as well.
