Well, at the risk of getting your thread binned like mine was...
1971 2.8L MFI. California history. Original (approximately Gulf Blue) paint. Chrome, chrome, chrome. Garage find. H1s/H4s. spare engine. Optional hydropneumatic suspension http://forums.pelicanparts.com/mercedes-technical-forum/1053698-new-project-out-pelican-scope-advice.html was moderated into a generic link to their Mercedes forum. But maybe they've relaxed a little. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410267.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410267.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410267.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410963.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410963.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410963.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587410267.jpg Goals 1. Recommission and get it back on the road with the current 2.5 MFI engine. This means brakes, fluids, filters, and some rewiring. 2 Building a new 2.8 MFI motor that matches the original build spec and installing it. 3. Drive. |
Lots of odds and ends.
Rollbar delete and backseat restoration so my kiddos can ride in the back. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587433227.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587433227.jpg Adapt Motorsport mini-blade fuse panels. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587433227.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587433227.jpg And finally H4 headlights so I can actually see at night. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587433356.jpg Next up either sunroof repair or door panel/pocket restoration, not sure yet. |

Another Project completed..... dang virus !
soooooooooooooo like many of you, i liked the idea of a Fuch with a collapsible tire mounted to it.... 10 years ago I got one.
The problem I had was I was not able to secure the spare down using the factory mounting hardware as it was designed for the spare rim, NOT a Fuch. Soooo it just sat there, unsecured. I always thought about figuring a way to secure it down. Never had the time for such a small issue. Until now...... plenty of time. No go with factory hardware........ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590119.jpg Had to come up with a solution........ luckily I have the time....... |
Soooooooooooooooo I came up with this.... so far so good!
I took the factory bolt and mounted it to the back of a CAP........ allowing enough thread to be able to secure it down into the bracket mounted on the the Frunk..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590418.jpg Then test fitted it to make sure it cleared...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590476.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590476.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590476.jpg |
Then hopefully everything lined up and it fits and I can secure it down.....
IT WORKED ! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590597.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587590597.jpg |

Same material. Vanity was completed a couple of months ago. Wood grain matches across all the drawer fronts. Drawer boxes made from curly maple. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587594661.jpg |
Adjusted valves after reading many threads here to get myself up to speed.
Cleaned the upper valve covers and coated them with penetrating oil but they were pretty clean to start with. The lowers were a different matter. Much dirtier as you might expect. Worse than that they had been painted black a looong time ago. I wanted to get them back to bare aluminum. Lots of paint stripper, chipping, scraping and scotch brite pads later I sprayed down the outside with Liquid Wrench penetrating oil. They are not perfect but I am happy with how they came out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587613925.jpg |
Most of my project parts are arriving Saturday from Pelican.
So in the meantime, I cleaned up my workspace and re-organized some things. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587667936.jpg |
Did a re-seal, and upgraded to Carrera tentioners. Ready for summer!
