Cheap way into a 993?

If you have a good body/paint shop, this would be a great way into a 993. Looks mostly cosmetic and if you have seen a good shop in action, it could be fixed easily. Of course, you would'nt want it to go much higher then it is now.

So what does the seller mean by GOOD TITLE? Is it a salvage title since it was signed over to his company by the insurance company? If so, the resale on this car will be impacted for many years to come. But it is possibly a cheaper way into 993 ownership.

It doesn't look like a cheap way to get into a 993 if you ask me. My pal bought his mint '96 993 with <5K miles on for $40K last summer and sold it in the fall for $42K.

While we're at it, I called my bank yesterday to check on loan values for 993's. I assumed 50k miles. On a 1995 C2 they would loan up to $39,016. On a 1996 C2 they would loan up to $38,575. What's up with that? Why would a '96 be worth less?

$20,000 for the car (if it sells). $5,000 paint job. Your still less $17,000. (Theoretically speaking).

A paint job is not going to cover up all those dents or the salvage title...

Salvage title=brutal resale. Do the body work, strip it and use it for DE?

if you look at the buyer's previous transactions, you can almost bet that this one will be patched up and be back on the market soon. caveat emptor. As for Chris's friend selling a 45,000 mile '96 for 42k last fall...he did quite well then!! but in today's market he'd be looking at about $5k less. the 993s have dropped about $5,000 since last fall. a 50,000 mile 96 can be had for 32-37k now, depending on color combination, condition, and options. just my 2cents, Max

From what I've observed, the cheapest way into a 993 - or any sports car - is big boobs & blonde hair.

My friend's car had less than 5,000 miles not 45,000.

sorry Chris, thought you meant 5,000 miles less than the ebay car. I guess i will never have a career as a proof reader . I know a 993 is nice to look at, but how could a person not DRIVE it more!! max

Chris your friend got a sick deal. That's nuts. I'll just have to assume it was white, blue interior, and Tiptronic else I'll start getting some thoughts.

Yeah, he did get a good deal. It was Arena Red with some sort of factory aero package.
He was going to drive it a little and sell it but he made the mistake of giving it to a broker to sell with the stipulation "anything over $50K is yours". The broker had offers of $52K but held out for more. My friend actually lost money on the deal. Lesson; a broker is going going to sell his own stock before he worries about a car that he has no money in.
