Jacked up and ready for next project

Nothing exciting here...just feeling the Corona isolation a bit. It's actually awesome to be connected to such a great community of like minded Porsche nuts during the pandemic...sense of connectivity and kinship.
Anyway, just got my gal up on stands for the next project...new clutch cable and pedal cluster rebuild. Haven't tackled anything on the car in the last few weeks. Last project was new sunroof seals and the one before that was a complete CIS refresh/rebuild. Gonna take this one easy with beers along the way...no big rush. Hope the cluster rebuild goes without too much trouble.
Cheers friends and stay safe!

Can you take pictures of the repair so we can also learn by proxy?
Why does the pedal cluster need fixing? What's wrong with it?

I'll take pics for sure. I've learned so much from everyone else on the board that I'm happy to contribute in any way I can. My clutch cable adjustment at the tranny end is basically at the end of the threads not allowing for any more adjustment. When I took a look at the pedal end, the clevis pin has almost worm completely through. In addition, my pedal has the classic plastic bushing squeak which I'd like to get rid of. Everything is original with 85K miles on it. So, I ordered a new cable and full brass bushing set for the cluster.

Sounds like the pedal box rebuild will be a lot easier with the seat out. I'm thinking about doing this myself in the near future.

Agreed. I had my seats out and did some work in that are and it's a lot less frustrating.

OP,
Hah, I get it you are gung ho on the project but have you tried this or equivalent ? 85K is not that many miles for the pedal cluster to wear out IMO.

As an aside...has anyone who has dug into their pedal box been totally floored that the stock throttle pedal is just a bendy piece of plastic????

The fact that the "hinge" is thin plastic is what caught me by surprise, as well as the throttle linkage simply clicking into the back of the pedal.

Very useful trick that I certainly didn't come up with on my own, but can't remember if I saw it anywhere...

Get some good duck bill pliers. Wrap electrical tape around the teeth. Use that to tightly grasp the linkage and inch or two from the pedal. You can use it to both hold the linkage and as a place to level against with your other hand.

Duck bill pliers covered in electrical tape have many uses it seems...

I'll take a look at the cluster to see how the bushings themselves look. If a little lube fixed the squeak that would be great...although I do already have the brass ones ready to go.

I used chain lube if I recall correctly, had a can available, this was couple years ago and the cluster has remained silent so far. Good luck !
