Replacing axle boot
Was under the car and found the inside rubber boot on the axle with a big hole in it. Ordered one from out host. Dropped the axle end with the bad boot. Got my snap ring pliers but couldn't get it off. Oh well so I dropped the whole axle and put it in my vice. Removed the axle, cleaned everything up, put on the new boot and slipped the CV joint back on.
Now my mistake was using the included metal gizmo the works like a tie wrap. That was my mistake because I've always used a tie wrap, which you can get tighter. Re-greased the CV and back under to car to install and what do you suppose happened? Yep the booth slid off. Now as I'm trying to reinstall it on the CV I'm getting grease on my hands. Well it fought me until I gave up. So I trimmed the boot back to the first big bellows then slide the boot down to cover the CV joint and double tie wrapped the small end over the axle shaft. Can't be any worse than the boot with the slit in it. I drive the car on good roads and no rain so I'll live with it until I have another reason to get under it.
