is that aluminum crossbar standard on newer cars? I've got a steel one on my 73T but I also have a Al one in my extra parts.

think it was standard from sc's onwards - i found problems with corrosion due to dissimular metals

Rob, do you wanna come clean my car when you are done??
![]() I love the body colored wheel wells, it's just too bad my car is black, so it doesn't seem any different from any other car that way.

Chuck's bronze bushings look really nice. Please tell us how they feel when you get everything back together.

Those suspension bushes are superb - very easy to fit. The a-arm movement and fit was excellent with no play at all. Anti roll bar fitting was a ***** though until I managed to get it worked out!!!!!

The glossy red was a lot of elbow grease to strip off 18 years worth of crud followed by a coat of super etch primer and finally £30 for 2 litres of guards red synthetic applied using a radiator (3" wide) roller!!!!!
Cheap but very effective!!!! |

Very nice! What kind of sway bar bushings are those and where did you get them? I just picked up the OEM replacements, but have the poly carb in the rear.
Cannot wait to see your finished product!

I am interested in your experiences with Chucks bronze bushings. Was the shipping and duty to UK costly?

no concours just trying to get it going!!!! Plan is to get it standard looking (fairly) - engine standard except for exhaust - but plenty of work to the handling side of things - ie it must handle!!! One of my mates has restored a MK1 RS2000 to fast tarmac spec and the way that thing goes round corners is superb - I can't have his MK1 being quicker so the work continues!

Do those bronze bushing harden the ride or increase sound levels when compared to rubber or polyurethane bushings?

I have been running the bronze bushings in my race car now for a few months. Theyare pretty much what you would expect, solid. I can not comment much on the increase in noise level since my car was so loud to start off with, I need ear plugs to drive the car and not suffer ear damage, and that was before the bronze bearings. I can tell you that hitting holes in the pavement or going off track into the dirt, is a little startling first time because the sound of the shock is transmitted intot he car. Even in my car I could hear the shot, it was like someone hit the front end with a hammer. After my, shall we say small off, I check out the suspension and all was OK, so they are tough enough.
As for driving characteristics, they do tighten up the front end completely, again my car is pretty stiff, 23mm front, 31 mm rear torsion bars, and 31mm front and 27mm rear sway bars, and re-valved shocks. Weighing in at 2130lbs, leaves it pretty stiff, so the bushings did tighen it up, but how much stiffer it got, hard to tell. The improvement in my car may be better than in a regular street car because the stock bushings I had in there were the loosest part of my suspension. After the next few events I will be pulling the bearings out for a look and will update Chuck on the wear if any under these harsh conditions. Jim

hmmm white fenders and red wheel wells?? what gives??
looks great by the way...that is the treatment my car will be getting soon... do you have it on permanent stands or just jacking it up? did you paint or powdercoat the suspension pieces...I have been thinking powdercoating, but I don't know if that screws with cleances between moving parts... MJ also did you paint suspension |
