What do you use for a bench power supply
I've had occasion lately to test electrical parts out of the car. In most cases, it's nice to to that indoors.
Short of dragging a car battery indoors, what do y'all use for a power supply? |

A hacky solution... a 12v boost box. So yeah a battery just a smaller one. I’ve used and old style transformer car charger but the voltages are pretty unstable.
I used to have a pyramid variable higher amp supply but sold it when it stopped messing around with electronics. A computer power supply or a 12v switching supply can be found cheap and work for basic stuff. Most car draws are lower outside the starter..... |

I have an old old old 12v regulated power supply, probably almost 50 years old. Never lets me down.
Something along the lines of this: Pyramid PS9KX Universal Compact Bench Power Supply-5 Amp Linear Regulated Home Lab Benchtop Converter w/ 13.8 Volt DC 115V AC 70 Watt Input, Screw Type Terminal, 12V Car Cigarette Lighter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002BA570/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vdk-Eb4KRA4C6

If you have an old computer (not a laptop) around it has a power supply in it. There are lots of instructions on-line on how to set it up to provide 12 volts or 5 volts.

12v dry cell flashlight or hobby batter if you are testing wiring etc.
Not enough current to do any real damage.
