Racing Dynamics Cat Bypass

Hi guys,
I'm new here and am excited to become a part of your great community. I was looking into a cat bypass for our 1986 Carrera and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the Racing Dynamics cat bypass. It looks similar to the fabspeed and m&k ones but is notably cheaper so I was curious what experience people may have had with it.
Thank you very much for your thoughts!
Pete

I run a M&K bypass. There is a reason it cost more. The build is outstanding.

Thanks, Roswell. Yeah, I've heard good things about the build quality for M&K and for Fabspeed.

The M&K build quality is fantastic and my shop said the system was a perfect fit (cat bypass/sport muffler). I hate screwing around with exhaust systems and didn't ever want to have to buy another, so it was worth the money to me.

Are you going to replace the stock muffler with one less restrictive?

Really consider rechipping the DME. Steve Wong is the go to guy:

Appreciate the props guys! No not all bypass pipes and pre-mufflers are created equal. You don't have to take my word for it you can see the difference. Yes the standard stamped inlet design others use will work but it's not optimal. We take it to a higher level. The oblong lower flange inlet is oversized to improve flow and the merge is proper to retain velocity. Same goes for the CARB cat version and the M491 mod.

Thanks a lot, guys! Very helpful information - I appreciate it!

Roswell, yes, I am thinking about moving from a stock muffler to some sort of sport muffler so I'm examining those options as well. Good idea about the chip - thank you. I've seen steve wong chips that come with some of the performance exhaust packages but I don't know much about them besides that. I will check them out.

Thank you, again, everyone!

There are several very good muffler options available. I run the M&k Cat bypass and a Monty muffler. The sound is awesome. When you decide on all modifications call Steve. He will put together the chip for your engine based on your mods.

Pete, if you'r considering a sport muffler, worth considering the M&K active premuffler as an alternative -- https://mkexhaust.com/active-exhaust-with-pre-muffler/

I'm running their active cat (48 state version -- still need to pass emissions in CO) with my original stock muffler on my '86 targa and really enjoy the "music" it makes when I get on the gas (and the bypass valve opens), while appreciating how quiet it becomes when cruising (and the bypass valve closes) -- can't really comment on performance changes as I installed mine in conjunction with an engine rebuild that included bumping displacement to 3.4l and higher compression pistons (which screams)

Understand that the active premuffler I linked to above sounds even better than my active cat as the cat affects the exhaust sound. FWIW

Thanks, Darrin - I'll have to check that out!
