Code for 1973 - 79 (?) 911 engine
I've just discovered that my 1980 911 coupe does not have its original engine! The engine has a WUR, and the car has an oxygen sensor that is not attached to the engine. I believe that the engine code is 901 106 101 5R.
Can anyone decode that for me? |

What makes you think you don't have the original engine? It should have a WUR and an oxygen sensor.
That code is the casting number for the fan shroud. You want the engine type. A USA 1980 car should be type 930/07. See this photo for the location on the engine case to the right of the fan (the small red arrow). The vertical number (large red arrow) is the engine serial number. If the engine type is correct, then you need to order paperwork from Porsche to verify if the serial number is the original engine for your VIN. These days that costs a few hundred dollars and requires a dealer inspection. ![]() Mark

Numbers such as "901 106 101 5R" are cast in raised letters and are part #'s for the castings.
Only numbers stamped into the metal with a punch can be serial #'s or type #'s.
