				Removing aircon wiring
			 
			
			On my 88 Carrera, I am fitting a Classic Retrofit electric AC system and I'd love to get rid of some (all!) of the redundant wiring for the original factory system. 
		
	
		
	
			
				The original harness seems to wind its way through the front end of the car but it keeps disappearing into areas where I can't really see if it is a totally separate harness or not. Before I start pulling it apart even more, can someone confirm that the AC harness is or is not a separate item that can be removed without interfering with other electrics?

			I am pretty sure it is all separate, IIRC. It consists of two knobs to the dash (thermoswitch and evap blower speed), a switch wire to the compressor and a power wire to one of the dash knobs. However, it may be different in 88 MY, but I doubt it. You may have a condenser fan also in the mix.

			I just pulled my ac out and unfortunately some of the wiring from the knob is integrated with the harness that goes through the firewall. I would love to delete it.

			On the wiring diagrams there aren't any connections as such, except to power supply, but I can't tell from the diagrams if any of the AC wiring runs in the same harness as other wires. However it looks like kinein has found what I suspected ... the AC wiring isn't completely separate. It is tempting to just cut as much as possible and cap all the wires I no longer need, but that is kinda irreversible! Thanks guys.

			I think my SC may have been aftermarket with OEM parts. Do you have a separate fuse for the AC in your MY?

			So Bill what did you eventually find out?  As soon as the production backlog is over I should get delivery of my Classic Retrofit AC system for my 88.  I would like to take the heater control dial/switch that is inbetween the seats and see if I could use the evap blower switch for it instead. 			All the original a/c wiring in my car was integrated with the rest of the wiring harness, so it couldn't be separated without removing the whole harness from the car.  I ended up just coiling the unused wiring and tucking it away out of harm's way in a couple of locations. 
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
			From memory, I think the only part of the original wiring that is used in the new setup is the fan speed wiring.
