Porsche Crest Any way to identify case without serial number?

I am thinking of purchasing a used case but the current owner cannot find any numbers other than the casting number:

930.101.104.4R

It is supposed to be a 3.3 Turbo case, but I would like to know for sure. I was told that factory-issued replacement motors don't always have serial numbers. True?
