Hello Guys,
I recently bought a 1987 911 Carrera Targa and I am planing to install new SSI heat exchangers and sport muffler. Does anybody know or had experience in Chicago area for passing emission test with this setting? Any specific recommendation? Thank you! E |

Cars made before 1996 don't need emissions testing in Illinois. See: https://illinoiscarlaws.com/smog-laws/

Per the other response, smog tests consist of a check for stored codes in OBD2 ports. Everything older doesn't exist as far as testing is concerned.

A good thing for us. Watched a state guy who told me he loved Porches rub the sensor block over the frunk during an early 2000's test. I poked my head out and told him it was rear engined. The no load revving didn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy either.
Tech is not a bad thing ![]()

You might get more issues with the noise of the sport muffler than the SSI heat exchangers. Some of them are pretty loud.
