Window on 83’ sc fixed / not fixed
Well, I thought I had my window problem fixed. Long story short, I took the door card off and there were at least two problems. The Two wheels had come out of the bottom of the rail (window regulator?) and the window that fits into the bottom of that rail had come out of it. Got the wheels back into the rail and got the window fit back into the rail. Moved it up and down about a half a dozen times and appeared to be working good again. Put the door card back on screwed everything back down went to put it back down and stopped coming down again. Bottom line.... the window is dislodging from the rail. I know the window fits snugly in there but it keeps coming out. Is it supposed to be glued in there? What do you recommend I do to keep the window from coming out of that rail?

The rail on the window could be bent. The only glue that I'm aware of is the bracket glued to the window.
The hardware that holds the rail assembly in the door could be missing a bolt or something in it could be bent or broken causing the window bracket to derail off the register. If I couldn't find anything, I would remove the entire assembly and inspect. The pot-metal cam that holds the pressure spring breaks all the time. Rennline sells a replacement. I don't think that's your problem, but definitely a replacement item when servicing the register. The window comes off the rail and out the top, the register comes out the hole in the bottom. Probably a half day / weekend project. Not too bad if you take your time. Have some blankets on a secure surface to set the window on when you remove it.

I had this exact issue on the drivers side. Window glass kept coming off the rail and either get stuck in the up position or fall down inside the door. Real PITA and it was the very first thing I fixed when I bought the car last year.
The rail was corroded and rusty and looked like it some kind of old caulk on it. It was so corroded the glass would not fit inside the rail. I spent a couple of hours cleaning the rail until it was just wide enough to squeeze the window down into it by tapping carefully on the top edge with a rubber mallet. Put rust converter on and let it dry overnight. Next day sealed the window in the rail with Loctite Marine Adhesive (Home Depot). There are other brands. These are “through hull” sealants and are sticky as heck and completely waterproof. I have used them on my boat for through hull cables that are under the water line, and believe me this is good stuff. Remember water runs down your window. Any way its been like this for 9 months now with no problems. Good luck |

I'm assuming your rubber gasket that goes around the bottom of the glass and into the channel is still there? Rust or corrosion is a likely problem if you still have that gasket.
I'd deal with that issue and then close the channel opening up a little before tapping the glass and rubber into it. |

Yes, the rubber gasket is still in the window rail. When you say "close the channel opening a little", you mean taking a pair of channel locks and actually tightening the channel opening? |
