steering wheel play -- bushing

I have some " play " in my steering wheel/column. By play I mean a tiny amount of up and down movement -- but not side to side movement -- in the column near the wheel itself. I have read about the bushing replacement in the tech articles section but can't find the part here (the URL some posts have pointed to seems to have changed).

Also, I have a '73 -- will that brass bushing fit it? And if the plastic bushing is NOT in pieces will it be hard to remove?

I bought the 928 bushing but unfortunately it does not SEEM to fit my '73. If it does fit, can someone please tell me how?

Lastly, if the bushing doesn't fit, I'll sell it for $6 including shipping within N.A.

I'm pretty sure the sleeve you guys are refering to does not fit in the early car's steering shaft (pre 73?)

The repair parts are for '74 and later.

You can get the upper bearing for '73 and earlier, but it is over $150.

Randy, I would suggest you take the column apart and see what is causing the loosness. It may be a that a good cleaning and greasing of the bearing will help things out. The upper bearing is preloaded by a spring under the steering wheel. It is a simple assembly once you have it stripped down.
