What's an SC with a 3.6 worth, with 70K miles on the clock....

Just curious.....I may be willing to part with my white 83 SC cab. I have three projects on line and no time.... It has a 285 hp 3.6 motor with Cyntex chip, headers (NO HEAT), twin Supertrapps, Sachs power clutch, twin front mounted oil coolers (Carrera fender cooler and Mocal center mount), RS style front bumper with cooler opening..... Other mods include larger Carrera sway bars, 22mm and 29mm torsion bars, adjustable Konis all around, Fuchs 7s and 8s, with 225/40 and 245/40 tires. Polished lips and petals with Green background matching Carrera side stripe. Lowered to euro specs. Motor has 40K, chassis has 70K, SCCA/PCA legal roll bar, Alpine CD in dash, 6 disc changer in the trunk, under the Brey Krause strut bar, dual Recaro seats, TRW five point harness, Hot Lap timer, gnarly bass tube, twin hi power amps, six new speakers, ear bleed time at max volume....... Motor has twin cats, o2 sensor and will pass CA smog testing with the addition of a check engine light in the dash. Gets 16-18mpg in the City with 20-22 on the highway. What do you think it's worth?

I'll be interested to see what you learn. Having poured $70,000 into my 270-hp '83 SC just for the fun of it (including the $11,000 I paid for the beater that I restored), I think I'd be fortunate to get $20,000 for it on a good day from the right buyer. Most days, most buyers, it would go for whatever clean '83 coupes are worth. Mods are like in-ground swimming pools: most people don't want the bother. Stephan

Yummy, although I prefer coupes. My guess is $18-22k, because I think most guys here will say $16-18k. However, I think most guys here underestimate the worth of cars, and even I probably underestimate the value of a cabriolet. The 3.6 whispers sweet nothings to my soul. Jurgen

Depends, could be anywhere between 14 and 24 depending upon if you find the right buyer. Assuming it's in good shape I think it could be worth 20+, but since it is pretty heavily modified it could prove to take longer to find someone willing to pay.

If it was a coupe I would be scrambling around to offer you $18K. Probably worth more in the land of R groupe

This one has a bid at $25K on ebay. It's a coupe with a few more mods, but may be an indication.

Let's see a 3.6 engine in a cab with a roll bar and with enough suspension modifications to keep the guys at the alignment shop happy? Don't think you can sell it as a garage queen or a car that your aunt used on Sunday to commute to church (not unless she attended the autocross church of the fast and furious). Like the picture, shave the head and you could look like Vin.

BTW....it also has H-4s and Sway Away adjustable rear spring plates, 930 steering wheel, glass ducktail...... I should write these mods down, probably forgot some..... It's also a reliable every day driver.

Wow Talk about a ricey tail pipe. Is this Vin's car for the sequel to the fast and the furious. Should get in touch with the producer of F n F and see if you can sell this hot rod to them. You need to put a bottle of nox somewhere. Last edited by ruf-porsche; 04-17-2003 at 09:30 AM..

Form versus function. No place to put cats AND a stock banana muffler without strangling the motor.

I think a little north of $25K for a car in very nice condition both mechanically and cosmetically. I wouldn't think the 3.6 motor itself would bring in significant $$ if the physical appearance is not fantastic. You can pick up a 911 with a 3.6 that came from the facotry for not a whole lot more so the car would have to be in at least as good of condition as a 90-94 to warrant the same price. What's the condition of the exterior and interior absent the motor?

Just about any SC that has $30/40K in refurbish and looks good inside and out is worth every penny of $25K. You know 10K for the base car and 30K+ on the refurbish...all adds up to 25K max. Past 25 you can still buy an exceptional car and when you hit 30K you can still buy a "dream" car in darn near any flavor. What I am hoping is that in the next ten years these same rebuilt SCs and Carreras will actually be selling for better money than they are now. Stranger things can happen. Like a couple who have already posted I have put some money in my car. Enough in the last year to buy a clean, older 930, in prestine shape. But I don't plan on selling my car in the near future either. If the market changes for older 911s great, if not it was worth every penny to me and I'll still have fun with it. A total rebuild top to bottom and a "new" engine in any version on any pre 89 P-car, is currently a lot car for the money, if you are buying on the "new" side of the flip. Try to find the performance and driver fun in a new car of any manufacture that comes close and you are looking at $30k plus at the moment. (and most will argue the ride isn't as much fun) Last edited by rdane; 04-17-2003 at 11:42 AM..

I think Mikez's terminology of Form versus Function is more accurate for his rice out exhaust system.

It is Mies. Mies taugh at Illinois Institute of Technology and "Form follow function" is a Bahaus term. Sullivan was from the Chicago school of Architecture not the Bahaus. Mies term was " Less is More" which was also used in a Folger commercial.

Since we're on the topic of spelling, it's "Bauhaus."
