The ultimate brake upgrade page.
Since so many are asking about brake upgrades, I thought I'll post some of the previous threads that I've collected during my research. There must be others and I welcome you to post them here.
If you are one of the lucky guys that already have modified your car please post your input on how, what you have used and problems encountered. Pictures says more than a 1000 words. I've long thought that the archieves should be organized some how. All it takes is someone w/ some energy. Keep going, there are a ton more.

Its true that the 15" (380MM) brakes are not available for 911's, but a 355mm front brake kit is available for '80-'89 Turbos,....
![]() These use a larger piston version of the Big Red caliper and it matches well with the 993 Carrera RS rear caliper.

How about some notes on brake pedal feel with some of these updates.
My nephew recently did the Big Red update on his 993 and the pedal feel in use doesn't come close to the stock feel. It brakes great(did fine stock also!) just doesn't have a reassuring feel to it. I hear this is a common complaint from 993's with Reds. |

89turbocabmike, check those threads and you will probably find the answer.
What master cylinder are you/your nephew using? With those calipers with big pistons displacing more fluid you will want 23 mm m/c.

Quote:
At the back the stock 993 has the biggest generally available pistons at 30/34 only the 993RS are bigger at 30/36. So unless the change included 993RS rears the pedal can only get higher and firmer w/ a change there. The cars that have an issue w/ pedal feel are the 964s. When upgrading their calipers a 993 m/c should be used.

89turbocabmike, I just reread your post, didn't realize it was a upgrade on a 993.

Thanks Bill and Palle, I'll mention this to my nephew. A few 993 Rennlisters we drive with complained of the same pedal feel, perhaps this is a brake bleed problem? One in particular is a C4s which I understand are more difficult to bleed.
