83 911 SC / Identifying wires

Hello
I have a 1983 SC ,
1) I am trying to identify where this unconnected wire is supposed to be at connected to .

2) I am trying to remove the CDI bracket but the nut just keeps spinning. What is the trick to getting it off?

That harness was used for voltage regulator. Someone must have replaced your alternator in the past. The regulator is internal on the newer models. As for the bolt look inside the fender over the tire the nut will be there.

Colors aren't quite right for the external VR - the cars which had it had brown, black, and blue wires to the 3 pin connector. But no '83 came with an external VR. You should be able to trace it to where it originates.

How far are you going with removing/taking apart things back there?

CDI units have no software programming. Same as a light bulb, so to speak. They have a fair amount of electronics inside, some of which can go bad over the years, and which can be replaced or even upgraded to perform the same function. But ready to go right out of the box. No chip, no flash, no OBD, no CAN bus.
