Headlight washer system

Has anyone added a headlight washer system to a 911? My 88 came without this system and was thinking of adding it.
Maybe one of you guys have taken one out and can tell me how entangled it was/is.
Covid 19 has me going stir crazy or what???

I would guess that the wiring is in place, you will need the pump, and plumbing. If you take off the front left tire, and drop down the washer tank you should find the spot it mounts and attaches to the tank.

My car came with that option. I actually drive my car on log road trips, and it almost always rains on a week long trip. I can tell you the headlight washer makes a huge mess of washer fluid, and will hose down the entire car if you are moving.

In the 25 years and driving through 41 states I have only used them a few times. One trip through northern Colorado and Utah we were on a 2 lane road. Lots of local traffic was coming oof of the dirt roads that led to the highway. It was just sprinkling lightly, and every vehicle brought more mud onto the highway. I was using the windshield washers every few minutes. I used the headlight washers several times. I used up over a gallon of washer fluid. The system got a real workout.

My Grand Prix White 911 looked brown after a couple of hours of that. It all washed off and all was fine.

Of all the gizmos on my car only the outside rear view mirror defrost is less used. Personally unless you are real bored, and want a difficult project I would not bother with it unless you drive in a lot of rain or wet slushy snow.

Doesn’t seem to be all that useful, but that said, it looks real cool spraying into the light on a dark night!

During my recent repaint, I just removed the headlight washer system and had the bumper holes welded shut. I know I still have the pump, but the lines may be gone, I'll have to look in the trashcan in the garage, to see if I emptied t before or after I through those hoses in. If you are really intent on installing the system I can go dig and see what I can find.

I think that system is really designed to de-ice headlights in heavy snow. It's not high enough pressure to get dirt off of headlights really, it just kind of splatters all over the place.

When I lived in Utah and did a lot of high-speed winter driving in my old Audi, I loved having headlight squirters. Lots of road trips in blizzards back then, and it made a difference. I haven't used it since I left the area on my Audi, or my Porsche. For me, it's unlikely to be worth the effort.

However, if you decide you want to do it, it's your car, and more power to you. It should be straight forward. The headlight system has its own pump, and the lines would all be easy to access with the front bumper off of the car. The feed line to the pump comes out of the bottom of my reservoir. The actual squirters will be a bear to get ahold of and get installed right, unless 76FJ55 (or someone else who has deleted it) by chance still has the parts.

The wiring will be slightly more complicated, but not too hard. There's a relay that disables the washer unless the headlights are on, but that should all be in the Bentley, and it's probably just a standard DPDT relay that would be easy to replicate its function if not original.

Good luck!

If I do this I would wire them to work without the headlight being turned on. I like options and this is one I'm sure will not get used much. But that being said, I have a dealer installed option most have never heard of much less ever seen. I like options just my thing. Don't know why. It's fun my style of fun.

Jack,

I have the headlight squirter bumper piece at home in my basement. I took it off when I tucked the bumpers.
I can get you some pics if you're interested.

They are high pressure and high volume and you are right, they hose down the entire car. They will blast off a film of dirt from rain or slush. One time my windshield washer pump died on a trip, I just hit the headlight cleaners, and they splashed enough water on the windshield to use the wipers to clean the windshield.

The pump is huge. I keep my old headlight washer pump on a shelf on display in my garage for when friends come over to see my garage. Everyone is astonished at the size of the washer pump. I have seen lots of fuel pumps that are smaller.

You could turn them around and hose down pedestrians, or clear a path thru the fires on the west coast.
