Rough riding seat rail
Okay, took the driver's seat out and moved the rails back and forth by hand and found that the rail closest to the tunnel was moving pretty roughly.
What can be done - a replacement rail or machine down the rough spots? ![]() ![]()

Do yours have ball bearings in them? I believe mine have 4 ball bearings per track unit; maybe yours have fallen out given the rough slide?

My drivers seat rail was the same if not worse. I took it completely apart and cleaned and tried to flatten/smooth the rail. I was never happy with the way it moved.
I ended up replacing the rails with a good set and couldn't be happier. You will be shocked at what a good set of used seat rails goes for but it was worth it. I can actually move my seat now. |

I don't need to move it, but the next owner might be shorter than me. So I just switched sides since I rarely have a passenger.

If you bend the little tab at the ends that hold it together, the two pieces will slide apart. I did it over a pan as the balls tend to roll out and get lost. I was slow and careful when bending the tabs and was able to re-bend them when i reassembled. The rails were better after cleaning and greasing but not good enough. I replaced them.
As far as how often do you need to move the seat? I sometimes let my wife drive and she is much shorter. Also as I get older and less flexible I find myself sliding the seat all the way back to get in and out. So I move it at least twice every time I drive. |
