high beams turning on themselves

Driving along at night, the high beams turn themselves on by themselves. Hitting a bump they go on, just driving, they go on. Tap the turn signal switch and they go back to low but 30 seconds later...

I haven't pulled it out and looked to see what has worn and if I can fix it. Hoping someone has already and can say, "just do this" and by this I don't mean getting a new one.

Spring contacts to HB side are worn. There are some threads to bend them out slightly and can be done in the car.

You can fix his in about half an hour with a couple of screwdrivers - philips to take the column covers off, small flathead to gently bend the contacts (per threads mentioned above by Jamie). Might have to take the steering wheel off. It's easy to figure out just looking at the contacts in the switch with the headlights on.

Garage
After my signal switch melted down, I installed a new one and it did the HI/LOW dance...
Adjusted the contacts and has been great for 8 or 9 years.
Here is the best thread on this .

add a headlight relay if not already added, otherwise full amperage from headlights will continue to go through (and melt) turn signal high beam switch.

Our host has a well thought out, easy to install setup:

Just do 40 over and you’ll be fine.

Pull the high beam fuse. They won't flash. They won't work.
