Distributor Advance Curve Question

I have a '70 911 E with a 0 231 159 006 (JFDR6) distributor. When I purchased the car it had an Electromotive electronic ignition but I wanted it to be more stock. My mechanic found a distributor and installed it. This past weekend I decided to check the timing because the car is idling too high. I found that at about 950 RPM I have about 10 degrees of advance. At 6000, I'm at 28 degrees. So I have about 18 degrees of total advance. Looking at the manual, I should have a bout 30 degrees. Is that correct? If so, what could be causing this?

Thanks

Chris

Are you running the MFI? Are you sure the distributor you have now is the same PN as original?

How is your car running?

Stock IIRC the idle should be 2* ATDC, which was required for smog. Ideally you would want ~7* BTDC idle advance. 10* may be a little too much, but?

Your total advance should be 30*, so you aren't too far off.

You can pull the dist cap off and twist the rotor to make sure the advance is not sticking. Perhaps compare to the old dist.

I would mark off your pulley every 10* and put a timing light on it and see how the advance works over the RPM range.

Yes I'm running a MFI. From the research I've done, I believe I have the correct distributor for the car. I have pulled the cap off and the rotor rotates and returns back. The runs fine. It just idles at 1600. Air adjustment screws will not bring it down.
