Can I use Curil-T on shift fork plate gasket?

My 85 carrera's transmission is leaking from the lower shift plate (I believe that's what it's called). I'm going to change out the gasket -- I purchased some Curil-T for another project. Can/should I use that on the gasket for the shift plate cover?

Probably a silly question, but I don't think I ever used any kind of sealer on that plate when I did it last - just thought I'd go the extra mile if it's worth it and put some sealer on there as well.

Thanks
Mark

Goobery sealers on thin paper gaskets often cause the gasket to split and sqeeze out upon tightening. I would use spray coppercoat and let it set up before tightening.
