3d printed iPhone cradle in center console
I have always wanted to put something in the open rectangular hole in my console.
This is the space just forward of the shifter and below the central locking button. There is a 2 inch tall space there. I am not quite as electrically inclined as the others on the forum that have put custom gauges in the spot, and I don't have a great place for my phone, so I thought I would try a 3d printed phone cradle. Here is my first attempt: ![]() Anyone else try this already? This is a 1988 with the stock center console and no mods at all. I think this will fit snugly, and the design tilts the phone slightly upright. I realize that this puts the phone in a slightly awkward location, but I just have the goal of filling the space creatively, having a spot for my phone with both the power cable and aux cable attached, and be able to see the screen to pause the music or see a map. Anyway, before finding a place where I can actually print the prototype, I thought I would ask if anyone else has already done this.

If your on a later iPhone with wireless charging , incorporate a charging pad too .
I was looking at doing something similar, but my new iPhone is too big to fit in the space my old one fitted in perfectly . It doesn’t help that my projects take as long as they do ![]() Next plan is to Carry on using my old phone only as a streaming device and install a change-pad converter I bought on ebay . I’ve not looked at how I can integrate the new phone to use for calla and navigation yet . |

I have a slightly older model of IPhone. You can see in the drawing that there is an open space at the bottom to allow the phone to sit in the cradle while attached to a charge cable attached via USB to the car lighter.

This actually came out pretty good - in my next version I am going to make the Porsche letters bump out instead of in. Holds the phone nicely. As you can guess from the position of the console opening in an '88 Carrera, this has the phone pretty low and not easy to read. But for basic functions like music and maps, it works pretty well. I am happy with how the black material matches the rest of the interior.
