				Wiring question

1972 911 Question on a couple wires. This is all on the passenger side of the car. First question is the clipped brown wire up in the passenger footwell/dash area. The wire going to the door light switch is connected, so it is not that wire. Second set of questionable wires are on the passenger side of the frunk. There is a black wire that is clipped. And there are two wires with connectors that aren’t connected to anything. One is black and one is brown (the clipped brown wire in passenger footwell also connects to this). | ||

If these are factory wires, the brown ones are a ground. The black solid black is unswitched power. What is not working? Light in glove box, interior lights, clock, rear window defogger? If you want some 1972 electrical Diagrams, e-mail me your e-mail address and I will send you a set. Also, nice color, signal yellow?

Thanks - yes, Signal Yellow. Car was stripped for paint and now I am reassembling the car. I don’t have power running thru it yet but was going to install the battery soon. So far I have been able to get most of the wiring back. These are the last wires I couldn’t figure out.

Black wire male terminal normally has a white black coming off the same terminal (crimped to it) that goes to the trunk lighting harness. The black wire female terminal for the dome lamps plugs into it. Brown wire male terminal normally has the sheathed brown door switch wire shared (crimped into it like above) the brown wire female for the dome lights plug into it.

Photo from a dash harness I built zoomed in to the wires in question. The Dome light harness plugs into the male terminals. Trunk light power is the white black wire. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I may have figured out the problem. I may be missing that section of the dome light harness. My car had rust repair in the a pillar area and from what I understand, the dome light harness runs up the passenger a pillar.

I do not have a headliner in the car yet, so I can see the dome light wires running down the passenger a-pillar. However I do not see them exiting the pillar into the frunk. Looks like I have a challenging fishing exercise ahead of me!

Ok, had fun with the dome light wiring. I had to pull out what was in the pillar, splice a section on and fish it back through. It was cut short - I’m guessing by the sheetmetal repair shop (ugh). I wired the black and brown wires as instructed above. I still have questions. There are 2 connectors still not attached to anything. Hoping someone can tell me what they are for. In the photo below you can see one female connector and on male connector circled in red. The female comes off the loom that also has a brown wire going to the door switch (which is connected) and now connected to the brown for the dome light. The male connector attaches to the plug under the dash as seen in the second photo. | ||

Ignition buzzer relay wiring for key in switch option is most likely. Check your schematics. Here is a link to the 70 drawing that is easier to read than the later years. That circuit is on it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/32266dstkfqnwrx/SL35-Master.pdf?dl=0

Where: 23 is the interior light 25 is the ashtray light 36 are the door switches. I am thinking you may not have a good ground for these lights.

Excuse the poor coloring. Same colors as what Harry posted, but shows the earlier style drawing without breaks from 70. The dash harnesses from 70 were commonly used in 71 cars until they ran out. Shows 53, the buzzer relay for ignition switch.
