Thanks for the idea. I will look into some sort of snap extender. . I got side tracked with new fuel lines and various little projects. Plus a 356 that always has projects if you actually use it!

This place has snap extenders and all kinds of other snap related stuff.

Rothaus, if you make those trunk liners I'll buy one. That's easily the nicest I've seen.

Sorry, I did not want to hijack this thread.

I plan to make another one for my SC after the holidays. Depending on the time I need to make them, I may offer them. I want to make sure it can be made for a reasonable price. I spent quite some hours to figure this all out. Also the shipping is another issue since it would be a large box to ship.

Thanks
Engelbert

I’d certainly pay for a set of templates- I’d like to try to make my own out of materials other than plywood like fiberglass, carbon fiber or nomex core, etc...

Andnkuhn 12-11-2020 04:02 PM

Rothaus, what is a forum without some new and better ideas! I agree with another member, I thought the carbone were great but yours is just as beautiful, if not more sturdy!

i’d also be interested in buying one if you decide to take on the task.

the first few are a trial and error and will be 2-10x the labor until you get it down pat. wood is a bit heavy in the car and costly to ship, what about 3/8” MDF? build/fabricate your base patterns and cloth patterns, Pre drill the holes, include decent snaps & sell it as a kit. Pelicans would prob be happy to source any carpet they feel works for their car from a local shop with good patterns.

Correction: MDF is heavier than wood? Who knew...

I would gladly buy schematics for the plywood panels

dfhtrhjn 12-14-2020 08:38 AM

I would buy schematics too. I have a wood shop, but little time to fuss with getting the shapes exactly right. A PDF of the shapes would be perfect.

Templates and a materials BOM would be awesome. That looks great!

I'd love the plans to make some myself – but I'd look into corflute for the weight savings and ease of construction. Agree with the others here – this is the best by far. Well done rothaus.

That’s almost too clean !!!

Neel 12-15-2020 01:07 PM

I'd be interested in a set of templates also!!

The people have spoken... Rathaus frunk > carbone frunk , even though they are both very nice! Peer pressure is a thing right?

bavaria911 12-15-2020 05:29 PM

Rothaus,
Real nice!
Could you instead use light weight aluminum sheet metal that bends easily instead of wood?

Another buyer here for the Rothaus frunk. The people have spoken indeed!!

Hi_Fi_Guy 12-15-2020 08:49 PM

No need for wood or aluminum. Plastic panels can be heat bent, riveted together, and easily covered with carpet. Will conform to almost any shape and is available from most home improvement stores for cheap.

Don't forget TOG's kit. He made for me and then a year or so later got ill and couldn't make them anymore. I have thought about taking mine to a shop and having it replicated.

Very nice. If you get them replicated I would be interested. Thanks

Very nice - both versions. I never understood why Porsche did such a lazy job on the frunk set up. Especially over so many years.

Andnkuhn 12-17-2020 03:20 PM

Watson that’s a great question. They make simple rubber mats that look great and cost twice what a generic set would cost. It’s an infilled niche for sure

“Infilled Niche” just added to my vocabulary. Like it. Watch out 2021!
