Rothaus I'd also be very interested in either buying the file so I can laser cut my own or to buy the wood pre cut from you

Very nice - both versions. I never understood why Porsche did such a lazy job on the frunk set up. Especially over so many years.

it all changed with the 964
before that, the cars were expensive for most, so they had to make it "cheaper" at some end.
don't forget the 911 was to be abandoned, a new generation was to take over (924, 944, 928, 968)

Great job Rothaus.I built a similar setup 2 years ago. Mine is covering a strut bar and made of 2mm fiberboard and perlon. Very light weight and takes all of 10 seconds to remove. I tuck taped the surrounding pieces so they become one whole unit when removing. The result is 2 pieces. The fiberboard pic is not the finished result as I had to cut out around the top of the strut towers to make clearance for the lid.
The key to building this is trial and error using cardboard templates. It was a very fun and rewarding project.

Very nice! Very clean look. Did you sketch out and dimension the templates for future reference, or to share? :-) (hint, hint)

LOL! In hindsight I wish I did at least trace out the pieces before final assembly. I wasn't even sure it would work until everything was finished. Getting measurements would be tricky as the shapes are not uniform. I also had to add spacer pieces underneath to allow the bottom base to sit relatively flat. The car is put away for the winter now so I'm not able to get a pic.

Andnkuhn 12-18-2020 07:18 PM

Tshebib could you take some measurements of what you have and maybe a sketch? I’d like to give this a try with your cardboard template idea. What would at least give us a great place to start!

Some really nice work here.

I did this.....

OK, I pulled the car cover off and got some dimensions and pics of the liner at different angles. This is definitely a prototype and could do with some refinement.
Great winter project for someone. Remember, cardboard templates are a must as there is a lot of trial and error fitting.

Thanks tshebib!

My car is at the shop for service but when it comes back I’m going to tackle this project. I intend to create a series of templates and a CAD file that can be CNC cut and then post them here. It might not be complete until spring but better late than never.

Great thread guys. Thanks for sharing

thanks! I’m happy to give it a shot as well

I did a second set of these, and I can tell you none of these cars are exact the same. I cut out the plywood based on the Carrera. You really have to have the car there and fit all panels individual. I don't think that I would make them and sell, and then nothing fits. Like Tom said above, it's trial and error, and the best is start with cardboard templates.

Here are some pictures.

On this one I extended the carpet at the left and right section where the hinges are and added a snap, so the carpet can go further up and fixed at the last snap.

Now I need to make the lock for the center door with the 3D printer.

Happy new year to all.

You guys are too much! Awesome looking frunks!

Thanks for providing the dimensions tshebib!

I did a quick conversion to mm - might save some of you (non-US) guys some time.

Thanks Mat.
I see you're in Australia. I'm in Canada and we had converted to Metric when I was in grade 6. I still go back and forth between the two.
Also, I agree with Engelbert that the dimensions are only a starting point and still requires lots of fiddling to make in acceptable.
Hopefully we will hear from others on their experience with this project.
In the end it is definitely worth the effort.SmileWavy

Very nice, so much better than floppy carpet curling up at the edges ;)
