All, Thanks. Yes its been a while, I haven't been around for a long time. I've been "infixiated" on other stuff. Anyway, the above teaser is what I'm going to do to the Beast. I'm taking the SC off and putting on the twin turbos. Thanks for the welcome back.

K16's, I might do the K24 compressor upgrade later. The K16's flow enough for 500hp that'll be a good start.

Mark, Why are you dropping the supercharger? Are you just looking for a new project (I would understand that) or the supercharger configuration had problems?

I'm doing the twin turbo project for a couple of reasons actully. I am "itchin" to do something else, espcially since I have a mill, TIG welder, etc. now. And also cause I've always had a problem with the SC and I'm tired of screwing around with it. Basically, any time you take your foot off the gas the motor will stall. I am the ONLY one that can drive my car without stalling it cause I have the technique down. I've tried tuning and adjusting everything to no avail. My theory has always been that there is too much volume between the throttle body and cylinders causing major variations on vacuum pulses and unsteadiness in the intake stream. The TB is trying to effect too much volume. Because its a positive displacement SC the TB has to be on the inlet side so the intake track consists of the sc, intercooler, piping, manifold. Recently, to test my theory I remounted the TB to the original location on the intake manifold…..after the SC. The motor purred like a kitten and idled rock steady, which I think proved my theory. However, because the TB was now after the SC I had tremendous boost spikes when the SC bypass valve closed on partial throttle applications. I had 15 lbs of boost at idle with the bypass closed. To try to solve the problem I installed a blow off valve, relief valve but neither could relieve the pressure fast enough, not to mention the positive displacement SC kept making boost, unlike a turbo on off-throttle states. I'm also very curious to see how the twin turbos will compare to the SC.....OK, OK I give up, just call me an addict!

| Got Boost? |
Natchamp, I am planning on doing a supercharge install on a Carrera 3.0 with 8.5:1 compression running about 6 psi and EFI. Am I going to face the same problem or is it that you are running very high boost for a SC?

Jack, you're funny, you shall never bow down to anyone after what you have accomplished! Imonboost, I was running @10-12 lbs of boost but my problem is not related to boost. It's an intake volume issue. If you are runing a centrifical SC you should have no problem cause you can mount the TB in the appropriate location on the intake manifold, or as close to the cylinders as possible. If its a possitive displacement SC, I would be very interested to see how it works. I'm not saying it can't be done. Someone recently gave me very good idea that might solve the problem. The intake issue I have is only part of the reason why I'm doing the TT project. | ||

Mark's engine is featured on page 108 of the Engine Rebuild book. Too bad the supercharger didn't work out - it made the engine somewhat unique. I suspect it will begin to look more like Kaspar's engine on page 109... -Wayne

Check this out, I was playing with my 3D drawing program trying to figure out the primaries I'm going to build. It's a cool program because you can actually see what it will look like. | ||
