Hi guys,
My dash pad on my 84 has seen better days and I'm in the process of removing my windshield to replace it. I have the rare option of the heated windshield which seems to have a wire at the bottom of each corner of the windshield coming out from the dash through a grommet to feed the wiring embedded in the windshield. The wires seem to go through the seal directly and I don't see any plugs of any kind. I'm thinking they could be under the grommets seen at the bottom, but am worried that if I pull too much on the wires or the grommet I might break something expensive. Any tips? Thanks in advance! ![]() ![]() |

Follow the grommet through the cowl and you see the wire coming through. Problem near the hood hinges

Thanks for the help, I found the wires and attachments. Power (passenger side) was connected with a spade connector, embedded in a very sticky tape. I destroyed the tape. When I tried to pass the wire through the hole in the frame I had to remove the grommet. Even so the spade connector was too big, so I decided to cut it and reattach when I'll reinstall. I unfortunately destroyed the grommet in the process.
![]() ![]() On the driver side the wire was grounded to a bolt holding the hood hinge, so I also decided to cut it as it wouldn't fit any more through the hole. I'll crimp the wires together when I reinstall the windshield. ![]() Now I started tearing out the windshield seal from the windshield and so far I haven't been able to find any type of connector on either side, just this: Driver side: ![]() Passenger side: ![]() I'm thinking there may be a connector under the plastic that's been heat shrunk, but I'd be more comfortable crimping the wires far away from the windshield instead of working so close to it and risking breaking something. So windshield is out now I can start working on the dash pad. |
