How technical does technical have to be, forum?

Dear all,

Stuttgart sent me a certificate with a short run down on what they think my petrol blue metallic '78 SC targa came with. A couple of interesting high options included. But, for instance, they didn't tell me anything about the tranny; it's magnesium, so the current one is a change up. What I really want to ask you about is the center air vent. It appears to be from a '77 911 in that it has horizontal moveable fins or blades. It may be naivety, but I believe it to be original. I do not have any reason to think differently. The dash as a whole has some warp here and there and is not perfect. The fins on the vent are warped and I am interested in replacement or rehab. Are any of you out there familiar with bending plastic back into shape? Or should I continue searching for a good double? Ideas, comment?

From the Netherlands,

Wolvega

What is the production date of your car?
And curious how they referenced your paint code.. did they provide a #

Your vent with horizontal fins should be correct for the year. You should post a picture.
I've never seen/heard of them being bent however, and I would think that you could disassemble the vent and heat/press them back to straight... and/or of course search for a good used one.

Anything further with the dash besides the vent will have to wait and the dash is really not all that bad as is. The form/certicate has an 'invoice date' (Rechnungsdatum) of 26.08.1977, deliver to SF CA. The exterior paint/(Aussenferbe/Code) is Petrol Blau Metallic 376.

The steering wheel is Momo; the front and rear bumpers came Euro-ized; exhaust is now much much simpler. Anything beyond these items I would like to return to stone stock.

Yes that is the correct vent for your car.. never seen a set warped that badly. You should be able to find another.. they're out there. Not sure heating this one will get it back to where it should be.

The 'invoice date' (Rechnungsdatum) is not the build date.. but no worries.

Whole dash...

To warp or unwarp, that is the question. It's way, way in the back of my mind. Not this year.
