Parking Lights-Drivers Side Out??

Both front and rear parking lights on drivers side are not working. Passengers side are fine. Not a bulb issue. For a short while the drivers headlight was out as well but it is working again on its own.

Any opinions? Thanks.

COULD be contacts in the light housing. Put a volt meter or test light to it.

I can't find my engine lid light on my 81. The wires that feed that light (flopping around in the engine compartment) touched ground and fried it's fuse that also feeds the parking lights on the driver's side.

Something similar is happening to you.

Rotate the fuse in the holder. Probably not making contact.

Will check out fuses. I assumed that both sides would have a common fuse. Thx.

+1 on checking the contacts. I recently had an issue of the brake lights dimming the tail lights when switched on. All of my goofy problems were the result of bad contacts within the light wiring harness.

Good luck!!!

I had a contact issue (lamp) years ago, fixed it with some WD40, no problem since; same lamp and all. No visible corrosion was there, but it doesn't take much.

I had the same problem. After much tracing it turned out to be the engine compartment light grounded out. It is on the same circuit as the left parking/turn signal lights. However I kept blowing fuses and you didn't mention that. Otherwise +1 on cleaning up the fuse contact points. Amazing how little corrosion it takes to loose contact.

Is it your turn signal!? Some models were wired so that the parking lights would go on only on one side with the parking lights on, turn signal on and engine off- as a way of just having the 'traffic side' lights on to save the battery....

Diode part # 911.617.108.00 under d/s dash burned out, euro park feature for t/s op of left frt and rear park lights w/key off. Simply remove diode and reconnect the male-female wire connectors. Ken

Assuming that the fuse is good, and you have voltage at the bottom of the designated fuse, your issue may be the engine compartment light housing.

The diode in the previous post controls the right side front and rear parking lights.

Upon failure, the right parking lights stay on due to a bypassed circuit.

I can post the circuit for the diode if anyone is interested.

Here's the CKT for the engine compartment light.

Hope this helps.

Gerry

I may be wrong (it's been a while!) but I think that diode is only on '86 cars, and only affects the right side parking lights.

Your correct Pete, it's for the right park lights, (my bad memory) but I had a diode in my 88 930, also found them in 89 911's also. Ken

Had the same problem. It was the engine compt light that I rewired incorrectly when I swapped my tailless deck as I recall. Drove me nuts.

Thank you to everyone on this thread.

My engine compartment light corroded and caused a short. The number 18 fuse popped knocking out the Front and left left driving lights and both of the rear driving lights.

I had trouble tracing it to the engine compartment light, even with a power probe. Gerry's brilliant post w/ diagram helped a tremendously. Gerry, where is that diagram from, Bentley Service Manual?
I want a full set of logical and physical wiring diagrams.

The bulb fixture body, which is also switch was corroded to positive grey wire making a short. I also did not know that the engine compartment light is on the same circuit the LEFT parking lights.

Thank to Pelican Parts for hosting this amazing site. I'm ordering a new engine compartment light now.
