Engine opening?
Hi all. Can anyone advise what should go here to close up the hole...am I missing a piece of tin? My engine has been "backdated" so maybe with those changes something got missed? Thanks for the help.

I believe that slot provided space for an AC compressor support bracket. You might see a few longish M6 mounting studs poking out of the chain box cover. That open space needs a short length of color-matched sheet metal (fabricated). I think the fan end of that piece slips under the engine mount bracket (painted black), then secured with screws into the existing threaded holes (M6 and ?). That piece will prevent exhaust-heated air from entering the engine compartment.
Is there a hole (about 3") on the other end of the long sheet metal piece? The hole blocked off? If so, to complete a more accurate hot air back date, source an early 911 rear sheet metal piece. The only mod needed for that piece would be to create clearance slots for each oil-fed chain tensioner tube (pass. side shown in your photo). Sherwood |

Hi - my 76 911S is missing most of the engine tin and also has backdated heat. I wasn't planning on replacing the missing parts, does it serve any important purpose?

It’s where the air conditioning mounting bracket went . I made a piece out of sheet metal to cover the hole .
