Bypass ICV with wire and car stalls... what is cause?

I am attempting to address a stalling issue when coming to stop signs in my 87' Carrera 3.2.

I was going to adjust the idle screw (under the yellow plug) but when I bridge the two ports the car stalls.. does this point to something specifically as to what the cause would be?

I've searched and searched and can't find a definitive answer..

Thank you!
Bryan

I have an '87 too. Never bothered bridging the ports and never had a problem setting the the idle up or down. 8mm deep socket is all you need.

Keep it simple.

Cheers,
Joe

I think bridging the two ports disables the movement of the ICV and locks it electronically in the middle of it's range. If this alone causes a stall I'd say the ICV when operating normally is right at the edge of its range and just hanging on to the idle.
Set the idle speed with an 8mm socket if you can to whatever the spec is 820 or 880 RPM? Also, and I think the most important thing for anyone with a 3.2, check the Air Fuel ratio with a wideband O2 kit. My 87 was super rich at idle which caused it to hunt and occasionally stall. Once this was corrected I haven't had a problem.

AFR check is a bit more complicated because the test port is ahead of the cat and anything measured after the cat (lazy method) is not valid because the cat has already scrubbed the exhaust gases clean. The tailpipe is for smog tests only, not for tuning.

Cheers,

Joe

Yes, I remove the factory narrowband O2 sensor and replace with the wideband for tuning/idle mixture purposes. It's before the Catalytic Converter.

Take the icv off and look at it when its jumped it should center. You can check this after shutting off the ignition and removing it carefully. Maybe it has a bad circuit? Did you check resistance?

Vacuum leaks, check intake runners to cyl head bolts, then all the rubber hoses.
