Q for Hardware Geeks Like Me..
Going through an engine reseal. There a lot of metal oil seals on these cars.
Belmetric sells nice aluminum and copper seal (gasket) kits. Generally speaking these are single use, or supposed to be anyway (please correct me if I am wrong). My question is are they interchangeable? Asking because I like the look of copper but almost all the ones on my car are aluminum. If copper does not work as well then I will get the aluminum kit. Thanks |

Re-usable?
Hi Funracer,
Yes, one time use, but... if you re-use them and "carefully replace them" and they do not leak they are re-usable, it they leak they are "single use". ![]() As far as which to use; we used to say, use aluminum for oil seal and copper for gas seal. I have used this method over the years and never had a problem. I have heard some engine builders say just the opposite though. Others will chime in shortly so lets see what they have to say. Rahl
