flapper box - how to remove guide tube?
I am in the midst of repairing my flapper boxes, including replacing the hand lever cable and plastic guide tubes.
My question is how do I remove the tube from the metal ring / bracket shown in the pictures below? Does housing pull apart, screw off, or should the tube simply slide out of it? The pictures are not of my car, but borrowed from a Pelican tech article. In my situation the tube is firmly inside the metal housing... which is the case in the first picture, but not the second. ![]() ![]()

Derek,
On my SC the plastic tube just slid out of the metal housing (which is attached to the hose clamp) once the metal cable is disconnected from the flapper itself. Loosen the adjusting bolt/nut on the flapper arm (picture 1, right above the spring), and the cable and housing should pull right off the flapper box. The plastic housing could be melted onto/into the metal tube, probably just have to tug a little.

Charlie,
Thanks for the reply. I have completely taken apart the fllapper boxes, claps, etc for sandblasting. but the tube for the cable guide is firmly in the housing.... so it must be melted in there as you say. Now that I know they should slide out, I'll just drill out the piece of tube. Thanks again.

Derek,
Make sure you totally take apart the flapper boxes prior to sand balsting. I mean take the clip off the actuating arm, slide the actuating arm out of the butterfly, and remopve the butterfly from the box itself. Makes cleanup and painting ALOT easier. Don't loose the 4 rubber grommets If you've already done this, nevermind ![]()
