Where is the paint code located?
On my car there is a paint code (Kunstharzlack) decal close to the door hinges. I have never read what my decal reads but I have a picture of it. I am not close to the car, I am out of town, so I cannot take a close up picture of the decal. Some one who was interested in my car turned it down because the label he says reads Viper Green and not Bitter Chocolate.
My COA says Bitter Chocolate. I thought that label should also be on the door where the door locks onto. Here is the picture of the label he says he could read. ![]()

if that tag reads another code than the one from factory then not only your car was repainted but also the tag was changed accordingly.
actually a neat detail to match the respray but a no-go for the faint original aficionados. you can buy these tags in blank aftermarket and stamp your own markings.

Sure...anything is possible, but there is most likely some remaining evidence of the car's original color which could be the green or chocolate. Assuming this is a restored car, depending on the level it was taken it might take a bit of looking, but one idea is to remove one of the gauges and look in there with a flashlight. That area right under the cowl would have had a 'mist' of the original color sprayed from the factory. Easiest would be is to pull up the floor carpet...if that are was not touched in the restoration, the floor would have evidence of the original color as well.

When I put the original carpet I didn't see any colour on the floor.

Also, you mention "decal." Although I don't know the build year of your car, I believe it should be a metal plate rivited to the door jam, not a decal. If it is indeed a decal, then the car was likely repainted at some point and a decal affixed.

When I bought the car it came with the VG colour code metal plate in place plus a spare BC tag. When I applied for the COA, they asked for the vin number and maybe something else, I don't remember as its been a while since I got it. I would love it if it really is a factory VG.

I think the "spare BC tag" says it all ....

As others mentioned it’s very easy to get that tag to read whatever you want it to and it’s an easy nice touch to add to a color change. I do that on cars that I change the color on so the COA and traces of the color in very hard to reach areas would be what one needs to go off of

Well, that seems simple. The CoA says Bitter chocolate, and you have a loose Bitter chocolate paint tag. The car was repainted in Viper green, and someone put a Viper green tag on the car to match the new paint job. The fellow turning down the car does not want a color change car.

He states in an email to me stating that he will turn down the car because he wants a car with the original colour tag. His intention was to turn the car back to its original colour.
