Changing Fuchs from Black to "Polished" How is it done?

Can someone tell me what the process is for a layman (like me) to refinish Fuch wheels from matte black to a chrome/polished look. For starters, what sort of chrome paint would I need for such a job? And how is it applied?

ackkk...don't chrome...chroming fuchs weakens them

if you want the polished look...look in the archives and the tech section

you can strip the wheels with oven cleaner...then spend countless hours and tons or elbow grease to polish the wheels...

or you can hand them to Al Reed and he will do a bang up job for a reasonable price...again search the archives for him

BTW chroming is a metalurgic process they are plated with a thin thin layer of metal...not a paint

Yes, I agree that chroming is not the way to go. And as for polishing wheels I would go with a professional. It isnt as easy as it may sound. It is almost like painting a car. You should go to someone that knows how to do it right.

i did the lips on mine myself DD74 started with 320 sandpaper and ended with 900 and then polisher. I must say they look nice but not great. I spend allmost 6 hours a wheel to get a nice result and have no fingers left

I wish Al Reed was Dutch

If you're in LA, Al Reed is the guy. He even has loaner wheels for you to use while he has yours.

Anybody polish their Fuchs with a die grinder and polishing buffs? It doesn't seem like that would be too awful of a job. I did an aluminum Corvette wheel a few years ago with a polishing buff mounted in an electric drill and it came out really nice.

I researched this like crazy before sending mine to Mr. Al Reed. Shipped them from Florida to California if that gives you any idea. This definitely seems like the sort of thing to leave up to a professional.

I have done both methods: by hand and by Al Reed.

I will never again spend time stripping, hand-sanding, and polishing with rouges in the correct order, then compound, then Mother's. Al Reed not only did it better, faster, he also cost me less.
