need help on how to remove trims
Hello,
After a crash, I am getting ready to repaint my 1980 Targa... However, they is a number of elements/trims that I can not figure out how to remove: - The aluminum (or similar looking) trims at the bottom of the windows. How/where are they fixed? - The trim at the bottom of the targa back windshield on the right and left (at the junction between the targa arch and the rest of the body - The Porsche logo/light thingy at the back of the car. - The windshield washed jets Thanks for any pointers! and Happy easter Cyrille ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

-door window trim uses clips, gently pry upwards. I sometimes use a small flatblade screwdriver to hook in the end of the īrailī where the clips slide in.
-targa window trim has a small screw in door opening and several small screws beneath window rubber. So window has to come out. Best to remove Targa bar also. -rear reflector is clipsed, and a PITA to remove. Maybe someone has a good tip on removal? -washer jets, just feel around underneath and should be able to push out. |

You will probably break off the tabs on the washer jets trying to remove them (ask me how I know), but they are cheap to replace.

On the rear reflector you can access the back side but you gotta take some stuff out and with the motor in the access doesnt do you much good anyways. I broke about 1/2 the tabs on mine removing it so be careful. |

Removal of side mirrors?
Hello,
ok, How can I remove the side view mirrors? I can detach them from the car doors, BUT the electrical wire stays there, and I can not completely separate them.... How do I pass the electrical wire so that I can paint the car and the mirrors separately? Thanks, Cyrille |

Hi Cyrille, some people cut the wires but I donīt recommend that.
You need a tool to push the pins out of the connector. Donīt forget to mark which wire goes where in the connector. If you search for "pin extractor tool" there are several sets for sale. You need a small hollow pin that goes over the pins you want to remove, and pushes in the tiny locator tangs on the pins. Hope this makes sense ![]() |

Be sure to remove the fender to cowl strips!! Seen plenty left in and painted over, looks wretched.

Acquire the proper pin extraction tool... https://www.amazon.com/TE-CONNECTIVITY-305183-EXTRACTION-TOOL/dp/B092P3LJJ4 Remove the six pins from the plastic connector. Make a schematic / take pictures prior to doing so. Use some heat shrink tubing to bind the pins. Lube the sheath / heat shrink with soapy water or silicone and pass it through the mirror housing. Remove heat shrink and insulate the pins until you reinstall. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() https://www.instagram.com/p/CPyrjG2lvIm/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/CPyvk8OlV58/?utm_medium=copy_link
